Though technically an orange wine, this wine doesn’t go aggressively funky. It has notes of apples, herbs, and citrus. Flavors of apple pie, toasted pecans, honey, and citrus are present on the palate.
Nun wine! Yes, you read that correctly. We’ve heard of beer made by Trappist Monks (Chimay) and liqueur made by Carthusians (Chartreuse). Coenobium is another product produced by members of a religious order. This winery is operated out of the monastery, Sisters of the Cistercian order. Here, approximately eighty women tend to vineyards, gardens, and orchards using organic practices. Under the guidance of famed winemaker Giampiero Bea, the Coenobium wines have garnered international acclaim.
